Earning Criteria

  • Pass a proctored exam on massage therapy and bodywork complete with identity verification at an NCBTMB contracted testing site: Exam tests therapist's skills and knowledge in the following areas: (1) Massage Modalities, Techniques, and Manual Forces, (2) Applied Science: Anatomy, Physiology, Kinesiology, Pathology/Injury, And Pharmacology, (3) Professional Communication, (4) Professionalism & Ethics, (5) Laws & Business Practices, (6) Assessment And Customized Treatment Plans.

  • Pass an extensive criminal background check.

  • Verification of current massage therapy state license (if practicing in a state requiring licensure.)

  • Agree to uphold NCBTMB’s Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.

  • In a state without massage licensure, applicant must graduate from an NCBTMB Assigned School.
